Roger Penrose and quantum cognition

From a discussion about "Emergence" on the Creating AI Google group (http://groups.google.com/group/creatingAI/browse_thread/thread/ddbcf8d1f...):

I disagree completely with Penrose's conclusions. I don't think the
workings of an individual neuron need be looked at quantum
mechanically, and I do think consciousness can be modeled
algorithmically.

Wiki - "Shadows of the Mind ... In the book, Penrose expounds upon his
previous assertions that human consciousness is non-algorithmic, and
thus is not capable of being modeled by a conventional Turing machine-
type of digital computer."

The kind of emergent quantum property Vitiello is talking about is
quite different. It is a property not of a neuron, but of many neurons
when acting together.
